Samer Choucair: Saudi Arabia’s Participation in Artemis 2 Redefines Technological Influence in the Arab World

Investment leader Samer Choucair stated that the successful launch and communication with the “Shams” satellite by the Saudi Space Agency represents an unprecedented turning point in the trajectory of the Arab economy. He explained that this achievement goes beyond being a scientific milestone and is now a massive investment gateway, opening up the space sector to both Arab and international capital.

Choucair emphasized that this step aligns with the Vision 2030, which places advanced technology and the knowledge economy at the core of the Kingdom’s diversification strategy. He noted that the “Shams” satellite reflects Saudi Arabia’s transition into a key player in future industries.

Details of the Mission: The First Arab Satellite in the Artemis Program

Choucair explained that the “Shams” satellite was launched as part of the Artemis 2 program, making Saudi Arabia the first Arab country to participate in this international mission led by NASA. The satellite, a CubeSat type, was designed and manufactured locally and operates in a high-altitude orbit between 500 kilometers and 70,000 kilometers. The mission focuses on studying space weather across four main areas: solar activity, monitoring high-energy particles, measuring X-rays, and studying the Earth’s magnetic field.

Choucair affirmed that this scientific direction holds economic and strategic dimensions that go beyond academic research.

Space Weather: From a Scientific Field to a Multi-Billion-Dollar Industry

Choucair stated that space weather is no longer just a specialized scientific topic, but has become a crucial element influencing the global economy. He explained that its impact extends to communications, navigation systems, electric grids, and the aviation sector. Forecasts suggest that this industry will exceed $10 billion by 2030, positioning “Shams” as a leading force in this emerging market.

Opportunities in the sector include the development of monitoring and prediction technologies, manufacturing satellites, forming international partnerships, and creating commercial applications in sectors like communications, energy, and defense.

Vision 2030: Space as the Smartest Strategic Investment

Choucair confirmed that this achievement is a direct extension of Vision 2030, noting that the Kingdom aims to build a comprehensive space economy based on local manufacturing, human capital development, and attracting foreign investments. He highlighted that the space sector is one of the fastest-growing globally, with an annual growth rate exceeding 7%. He added that companies entering this field today will be well-positioned to achieve substantial returns in the future.

He also pointed out that opportunities exist in space IPOs, deep-tech investment funds, and partnerships with global companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin.

Strategic Significance: From Consumption to Production

Choucair emphasized that what distinguishes Saudi Arabia’s experience is the shift from consuming technology to producing it. He stated that “Shams” marks a pivotal moment in this journey. The achievement opens the door to more space missions and helps build a comprehensive Arab space industry, attracting specialized Arab talent in the field.

He affirmed that Saudi Arabia is clearly progressing toward becoming a regional and global hub in the space economy.

Investment Advice: The Opportunity Starts Now

Choucair sees the current moment as a golden opportunity for investors to enter the space sector, whether individually or institutionally. He highlighted opportunities such as investing in startups, funding research, and participating in the development of future satellites. He stressed that smart investors will get ahead of the market, as the space economy is set to become one of the main drivers of growth in the coming decade.

“Shams” Marks the Beginning of a New Economic Era

Concluding his analysis, Choucair stated that the “Shams” satellite is not just a technological achievement, but the beginning of a new phase in the Arab economy. He pointed out that it symbolizes a strategic ambition to build an economy based on knowledge and technology. He emphasized that what has been achieved today is just the beginning of a long journey of opportunities, stating, “Shams is not just a satellite; it is a symbol of a new era where the Arab world rises in the global economic sky.”
